Instructions for Using Mulling Spices (see recipes below)
For Mulled Cider:
Ingredients: 1 quart (4 cups) of apple cider + 1 packet of mulling spices
Optional: fresh orange slices or a splash of bourbon for extra flavor
Instructions:
In a saucepan, combine the apple cider and mulling spices.
Heat over low-medium heat until just below boiling. Avoid boiling to preserve the cider’s flavor. Simmer for 10-20 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse. Remove spices, serve warm, and enjoy!
For Mulled Wine:
Ingredients: 1 bottle of dry red wine (a Merlot, Zinfandel, or Grenache works best) + 1/4 cup raw honey or pure maple syrup (to taste) + 1/4 cup brandy or Cointreau (optional)
+ 1 packet of mulling spices
Optional garnishes: orange slices, cranberries, or cinnamon sticks
Instructions:
In a pot, combine wine and mulling spices, and optional liquor. Heat slowly (on low) until warm (do not boil to prevent alcohol from evaporating). Steep on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add honey/maple syrup and stir. Remove spices, ladle into mugs, garnish if desired, and serve warm.
For Mulled Tea:
Ingredients: 4 cups of brewed tea (black, rooibos, or spiced herbal teas work well) + 1 packet of mulling spices
Instructions:
Add brewed tea and spices to a pot. Heat gently and let simmer for 10 minutes. Strain out the spices and serve warm.
For Simmer Pot (Potpourri):
Ingredients: 4 cups of water in a saucepan + 1 packet of mulling spices
Optional (any combination of the following, based on personal preference): fresh oranges, lemons, cranberries, thyme, rosemary, pine sprigs, vanilla extract.
Instructions:
Add water, mulling spices, and optional ingredients to a pot. You can also use a crockpot. Heat gently and let simmer for as long as desired. Add more water as needed.
